Certified Backtranslations
What is backtranslation?

Backtranslation is often required by an IRB when translating ICF's to ensure the initial translation is accurate. It involves 3 steps.

Step 1) Translation from language A to language B
Step 2) Translation from language B back to language A (performed by someone who is not familiar with the source document from step 1.)
Step 3) A comparison of the initial document (from step 1) and the backtranslated document (from step 2). The two will not be identical. However, the differences should be limited to synonyms and actual expressions, with the reader getting the same information from either document.

If the translation resulting from step 2 is missing information or deviates from the source document, it must be determined if the problem stems from the translation to language B in step 1 or from the backtranslated document. If it is in the translation to language B then a correction is in order and the backtranslation has performed its duty.

Let us backtranslate someone else's translation to help you ensure they did a good job.

General Medical Translation Services

Hospitals and Health Care facilities trust us to provide accurately translated information to the community about new hospital services. They choose us when they want to confidently provide public health notices, patient education materials and patient and visitor information in other languages.

These situations call for a translation which does NOT need to be certified but should still be done by a "medical" translator. These documents may contain lingo and jargon specific to the medical profession which are not in every translators vocabulary. The ability to differentiate which lay terms equal which technical word can affect proper usage and understanding.

For accurate translations that are going to be published, call our project coordinators for scheduling and typesetting solutions. Top
